Menpora Optimistic Indonesian Contingent Can Send 30 Athletes To The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA - Optimism was expressed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, regarding the number of athletes representing the Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He hopes that more than 30 athletes can compete in the world grand sporting event which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The number of athletes expected by the Minister of Youth and Sports to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics is directly proportional to the current potential sports (sports). Of the 36 sports involved, the Menpora hopes that more athletes can participate.

"It should be with what is now, Indonesia has potential (athletes) that can be fought for to pass with an estimate of 20-30 (athletes)," said Dito Ariotedjo after the agenda at the Kemenpora Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, February 26, 2024.

Although he hopes that more than 30 athletes will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Menpora explained that the target number is still dynamic and continues to be fought for by each sport that participates in the Olympic qualifications.

Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports said that the Government does not yet have a concrete target of how many athletes must pass the qualifications. The reason is, it all depends on the challenges of each sport.

"We don't have a concrete target yet. What can be done now is to ensure that as many athletes as possible pass the qualification," said Dito.

In order to realize the hope of passing many representatives at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the real effort made by the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports is to provide financial assistance.

This was done for 11 sports that will participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics qualification with a disbursement of Rp61.5 billion.

In addition to providing financial assistance, one thing that can be done is to conduct business negotiations with a number of sports that have the potential to get wild cards for a number of Indonesian athletes.
