Al-Qassam Brigade Brigade Shooting Bullet Kills Israeli Officer In Southern Gaza City

JAKARTA - The Al-Qassam Brigade announced it had killed an Israeli officer through sniper bullets and shot an armored vehicle carrying personnel in Gaza City, Palestine, on Saturday, February 24 evening local time.Without providing further details, the Hamas armed wing group in a separate statement on Telegram claimed to have "successfully shot a Zionist officer with a Qassam ‘Ghoul&rsquo rifle; in the Zaytoun area south of Gaza City."Reporting from Anadolu via Antara, Sunday, February 25, he shared images on Telegram that were given information “57 missions carried out by Al-Qassam snipers, including 34 missions with rifles ‘Ghoul’.”In 2014, Al-Qassam first released a video of a new sniper rifle named Ghoul locally produced in the Gaza Strip.They linked the name of the rifle to Adnan Al-Ghoul, one of the leaders of its manufacturing unit that Israel killed in Gaza City on October 22, 2004.In a statement on a video posted on their website at the time, the Al-Qassam Brigade said the new weapon was a 14.5mm caliber rifle with a lethal range of up to 2 km (1.2 miles).They said the weapon was one of the locally produced products of Al-Qassam.The Al-Qassam Brigade stated in a separate statement that its fighters “ targeted Israeli Merkava tanks with tandem bombs and armored vehicles carrying personnel with explosives in the southern Zaytoon area. Their actions resulted in fatalities, including one dead and one injured," on Saturday.Earlier on Saturday morning, Israeli soldiers announced the death of a new officer on his staff.“Officer Eyal Shominov, 24, from the Karmiel area, company commander at the Rocked Battalion (424), the Giovanni Brigade, was killed in fighting in the northern Gaza Strip,” he said.
The Israeli army did not disclose additional details regarding the fighting that caused Shominov's death. According to data on their military website, 577 officers and soldiers have been killed since the 1990s.
