RI Has 20 Oil And Gas Basin Potential For Carbon Storage, Here's The List
JAKARTA - Director General of Oil and Gas (Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Tutuka Ariadji revealed that Indonesia's upstream oil and gas has a very promising carbon storage potential.
"From the research by the Lemigas team, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, data on the great potential for aquifer saline carbon storage is 572.77 giga tons, then the potential for depleted oil & gas reservoirs is 4.85 giga tons," said Tutuka, quoted Wednesday, February 21.
Tutuka said the figure was obtained based on the results of research in 20 oil and gas basins that were produced in Indonesia, both in saline aquifers and in delayed oil and gas reservoirs.
"Of course this data will develop and it will be our concern to continue updating data related to carbon storage potential," he added.
Of course, the potential for carbon storage in Indonesia is still very large, continued Tutuka, considering that currently in Indonesia there are 128 oil and gas basins, and only 20 basins have been investigated to produce.
"Of the 128 basins, there are still 27 basins of disclosure and the rest are prospective that have not been explored," said Tutuka.
