Preventing The Entry Of The African Pig Virus, Desinction Carpet Is Now Installed In Papuan Ports

PAPUA - Papua's Center for Fish and Plant Quarantine (BBKHIT) has installed a disinfection carpet at the arrival terminal to prevent the entry of African Swine Fever (ASF) or African swine fever to Cenderawasih Earth.

Head of BBKHIT Papua Lutfie Natsir said the disinfection carpet was installed at airports and ports.

"In addition to installing the carpet, we have also tightened supervision at border or border by examining passenger luggage to eliminate food originating from pigs," he said in Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday, February 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Lutfie, his party then prohibited the traffic of pigs and their products from and to Timika and carried out certification services according to the SOP.

"We also disseminate information through social media, install billboards and provide ASF pocket books to passenger communities so that they are expected to be more alert to the virus," he said.

He explained, indeed for Papua Province itself, his party has not found any passengers entering from the port or local airport related to livestock, products and processed pigs.

"We are also with the Papua Provincial Government to increase cooperation to anticipate that the virus does not enter," he said.

He added, with coordination with local governments and stakeholders, it is hoped that the virus will not enter considering that in Papua the majority of the people who eat meat are the majority, so this ASF virus is of concern to all.

Previously, a coordination meeting was held with the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) regarding the prevention of the entry of the African pig virus at the Acting Assistant for the Economy and People's Welfare of the Papua Regional Secretariat, Tuesday, February 21.
