Having A Capacity Of 1.51 MWp, Pertamina Inaugurates PLTS Balongan Refinery

JAKARTA PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Refinery Unit VI (Kilang) Balongan inaugurated the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 1.51 Megawatt peak (MWp). The construction of this PLTS is the result of the synergy between the KPI and Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE).

The inauguration was carried out by the Director of Operations of KPI Didik Bahagia, and the Director of Project & Operations of Pertamina NRE Norman Ginting, GM Refinery Unit VI Balongan Sugeng Firmanto, and VP Infrastructure Master Plan Pertamina Muhammad Yasir Arofat. The PLTS with a total installed capacity of 1.51 MWp was built in 2 separate areas, namely 1 MWp and 0.51 MWp. The PLTS supplied electricity for housing in the Balongan Refinery.

"We are proud to be part of the decarbonization efforts carried out at the Pertamina International Refinery. The use of PLTS in the Balongan Refinery is one of the forms of collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Pertamina International Refinery. We believe that solid synergy will strengthen efforts to achieve the aspirations of Pertamina's net zero emissions," said Pertamina's Director of Project & Operations NRE Norman Ginting in a statement to the media, Tuesday, February 20.

Norman continued that Pertamina's decarbonization initiative was a serious effort and part of Pertamina's commitment to implementing the ESG aspect. One of these seriousness is shown by Pertamina's ESG score which is getting better from year to year.

On the same occasion, the Director of KPI Operations, Didik Bahagia conveyed the high commitment of KPI which actually supported decarbonization in the operating unit.

"By integrating decarbonization into the operating unit, KPI is ready to have a real and positive impact on the environment while contributing to achieving global sustainability goals," said Didik Bahagia.

In addition to increasing the reliability of power supply, this PLTS also proves that the Balongan Refinery is fully committed to decarbonization, and this is part of the implementation of ESG ratings for KPI and Pertamina as a whole. With this PLTS, it is estimated that it will distribute 781 MWh of energy per year and reduce carbon emissions by almost 600 tons of CO2 per year.

Overall, until now, PLTS installed in the KPI operating area has reached a capacity of 9.87 MWp, namely Dumai Refinery 3.77 MW, Plaju Refinery 2.25 MW, Balongan Refinery 1.51 MW, and Cilacap Refinery 2.34 MW. The accumulated energy distributed reaches 10 million kWh and decreased emissions of more than 6 million tons of CO2, or equivalent to planting 7 thousand adult trees.
