GBK Becomes A Green Open Sports And Space Complex With 100 Percent EBT Electricity

PT PLN (Persero) officially presents full green electricity in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area of 5.54 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

The collaboration between the PLN of the Greater Jakarta Distribution Main Unit (UID) and the Bung Karno Complex Management Center (PPK GBK) has made GBK the first green sports venue and open space to use the PLN REC service.

The signing of the PLN REC provision agreement is carried out on the sidelines of the opening of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that REC is the answer to the need for decarbonization steps, especially in the industrial and business sectors. This step is part of efforts to achieve the carbon emission reduction target towards Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060.

"Of course this is proof that PLN together with PPK GBK take a role in suppressing emissions by encouraging the use of environmentally friendly energy," said Darmawan, Tuesday, February 20.

REC is a form of PLN's service to make it easier for customers to gain international recognition for the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) which is transparent, accountable, and recognized globally. Each REC certificate proves that electricity per megawatt hour (MWh) used by customers comes from EBT or non-fosil generators.

General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Lasiran appreciated GBK for participating in using clean energy.

GBK Stadium became the first sports hall in Indonesia to use 100 percent clean energy.

"The purchase of REC is the easiest way for customers to enjoy clean energy from PLN. If you build your own generator, it will require large investment costs and a long time, but by buying the PLN REC, GBK has officially become one of the customers who use clean energy," explained Lasiran.

Lasiran added that the connected power for the GBK area is 5.54 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) which includes the GBK Main Stadium, Indoor Tennis, Centercourt, Swimming Stadium, Istora, and regional infrastructure.

According to PLN's calculations, the total supply of renewable energy distributed from PLN to Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) for one year reached 8.1 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Lasiran said, GBK can be an example for other sports venues in Indonesia to adopt REC from PLN as a form of commitment to the use of clean energy.

President Director of PPK GBK Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo revealed that GBK's commitment to using electrical energy is even cleaner from upstream to downstream.

In addition, the vision and mission is in line with the government's program in reducing emissions.

"GBK today has collaborated with PLN and ensured that with the purchase of this REC, the electricity source comes from EBT. This is in line with the vision and mission of PPK GBK, to become an environmentally friendly area and support government programs in reducing emissions," explained Rakhmadi.
