The Sustainability Of Jurgen Klinsmann's Fate In The South Korean National Team, KFA Technical Committee Agrees To Fire

JAKARTA - The Technical Committee of the South Korean Football Federation (KFA) submitted a recommendation regarding the fate of Jurgen Klinsmann to KFA President, Chung Mong-gyu. They agreed that Klinsmann should be fired from his position as coach of the national team.

Based on a meeting held Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Chairman of the KFA Technical Committee, Hwang Bo-gwan, said that his party had received recommendations regarding the position of Klinsmann in the South Korean national team. He said that the Technical Committee had asked KFA to fire Klinsmann.

The decision was taken after going through long considerations. Especially after seeing the ability of Klinsmann which was deemed to have failed to boost the South Korean national team in the 2023 Asian Cup.

"For several reasons, it was decided that Klinsmann could no longer show leadership and we agreed that a replacement coach was needed," Hwang said as quoted by Chosun on Friday, February 16, 2024.

Although the KFA Technical Committee has recommended the dismissal of Klinsmann, KFA has yet to make a choice. This still has to wait for Chung Mong-gyu's decision and approval as KFA President.

Klinsmann previously attended a virtual meeting because he was in the United States. He briefly explained that the fight between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in one day before the semifinals in the 2023 Asian Cup against Jordan was quite disturbing to the team's condition.

"Klinsmann said in a meeting that the fight between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in disrupted the team's performance. The association is currently investigating the truth of the incident," Hwang said.

"Klinsmann does not recognize the issue of the lack of tactics that occurred in the 2023 Asian Cup. The dismissal of Klinsmann has not been decided, but the opinion of the Technical Committee will be reported to the association," said Hwang.
