This Weekend Yogyakarta It Is Estimated That Extreme Rain, BMKG: Can Trigger Fallen Trees

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has asked residents of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to be aware of the potential for extreme rain accompanied by strong winds over the weekend or weekend this week.

"Be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds can trigger fallen trees," said Head of the Yogyakarta BMKG Meteorological Station Warjono in a statement Friday, February 16, which was confiscated by Antara.

In addition to the potential for strong winds until February 18, 2024, Warjono also asked the public to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods and landslides due to light to moderate rain but with a long duration.

Based on the results of the analysis of the latest atmospheric dynamics, said Warjono, the BMKG Yogyakarta Meteorological Station identified a low pressure center in the northern Australian region.

"In addition, it was observed that there was a cyclonic circulation pattern west of the island of Kalimantan and there was also a wind (convergence) meeting in the eastern Java Sea," he said.

Based on the results of the latest analysis of the vertical profile, he said, the humidity in the DIY area at an altitude of 1.5-3.0 km ranges from 70-95 percent (wet), which causes opportunities for moderate to heavy rain in several northern DIY areas, especially during the afternoon to evening.

The BMKG of the Yogyakarta Meteorological Station detailed that on February 16, 2024, moderate to heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning or strong winds occurred in northern Sleman Regency, northern Kulon Progo, and western Gunungkidul.

Next on February 17, 2024, similar potentials in northern Sleman, and northern Kulon Progo. Then on February 18, 2024, the potential occurred in northern Sleman and northern Kulon Progo.
