The reason, said Siti Nurdjanah, is that the legal process for cases of gross human rights violations of Paniai at the cassation level has stalled due to the absence of an ad hoc judge who has tried. "In the Supreme Court there is no ad hoc HAM judge, even though the law stipulates that human rights cases must be handled by a panel of judges consisting of career judges and ad hoc HAM judges," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 6. On the other hand, Deputy Chairperson of the National Commission for External Affairs (Komnas) HAM Abdul Haris Semendawa hopes that ad hoc HAM judges in the elected Supreme Court will have commitment and empathy for victims. He said, because in the human rights court, one of the things that was considered was the protection of witnesses and victims in terms of compensation, restitution, rehabilitation, and treatment of victims. "Hakim ad hoc HAM is expected not only to be competent in knowledge, but to have commitment and empathy," Haris said in a public discussion entitled Reconstruction of Human Rights Courts Through the Filling of Ad Hoc HAM Judges in the Supreme Court in Jakarta, Tuesday 6 February.
