Napoli Fail To Turn Aggregate Over Granada, Eliminated From Europa League

JAKARTA - Napoli failed to reverse the aggregate despite winning the second leg of the Europa League last 32 against Granada with a score of 2-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Friday morning.

The result was not enough to save Napoli, who were knocked out of the Europa League, while Granada qualified for the last 16 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a 2-0 win in the first leg a week ago.

According to Antara, Napoli started the second leg very well and took the lead just three minutes after the kick-off through Piotr Zielinski's goal.

Starting from a quick start, Lorenzo Insigne ended with a pass which Zielinski completed with a measured shot from outside the penalty box into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Napoli failed to keep the lead and in the 25th minute an Angel Montoro header from Dimitri Foulquier's cross gave Granada a level 1-1.

Seven minutes later Granada have the chance to turn things around but Maxime Gonalons' shot goes narrowly over the bar in a corner.

Insigne had two chances to restore Napoli's lead, but one shot was still not enough to get past Granada's defense and the other was secured by goalkeeper Rui Silva.

The score lasted until halftime and in the 59th minute Napoli kept their chances of progressing to the last 16 when Fabian Ruiz caught Insigne's pass to make it 2-1.

However, Napoli still need at least two more goals to win the round of 32 and they continue to attack Granada's defense with the remaining time available.

No less than 11 attempts were released by Napoli, but the score 2-1 or 3-2 on aggregate for Granada did not change until the whistle sounded the match.

Granada will find out about their opponents in the last 16 of the Europa League following the draw made by UEFA this Friday afternoon.
