Two Orangutan In West Kalimantan Born Healthyly, Minister Of Environment And Forestry: Fresh Wind For Conservation Efforts
JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya announced two orangutan individuals who were born in Betung Kerihan National Park, West Kalimantan. Both have grown healthy and become a breath of fresh air for orangutan conservation efforts in Indonesia.
"The birth of Born Kalimantan orangutans in the Betung Kerihun National Park area indicates habitat suitability and the sustainability of the people of Kalimantan," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.
He explained that the two individual orangutans in Kalimantan who were reported to have given birth were Juvi and Jojo. Both were released into the wild in 2017 in the Nanga Hovat Resort Area, the result of a collaboration between the Betung Kerihun National Park Center and Lake Senarum (BBTNBKDS) with the Orangutan Sintang Rescue Foundation (YPOS) and the West Kalimantan BKSDA.
The child of Jojo's orangutan is estimated to be two years old when he was met in November 2023, while the child from Juvi is estimated to be one year old when he was first met in 2019, until 2024, he is estimated to be 6 years old.
He explained that the preservation of animal habitats and conservation is an inseparable unit in the targets of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry programs.
Therefore, he invites all parties to provide support in the preservation of animals and their habitats.

Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) KLHK Satyawan Pudyatmoko explained that BBTNBKDS reported that Jojo's orangutans and their children were monitored, while Juvi's orangutans and their children were monitored based on the monitoring report of the Sintang Orangutan Center Team (SOC).
He stated that together with his staff, he would continue to carry out protection and preservation activities, especially in the national park area, to preserve the area along with the flora and fauna that live in it.
