Joe Rogan Saves Bitcoin Since 2014, Never Sells A Single

JAKARTA - Joe Rogan, a popular comedian and podcaster of The Joe Rogan Experience, turns out to be a Bitcoin fan. He has been keeping Bitcoin (BTC) since 2014, and has never sold it, even as the crypto price hit record highs.

This was revealed from on-chain data, which is data that records all transactions that occur on the Bitcoin network. The data shows that Rogan has a public Bitcoin address, which he shared via social media in 2014. The address is in the form of a QR code, which other users can scanned to send him Bitcoin.

From that address, Rogan has received 468 transactions between 2014 and 2022, with a total of 5.24 BTC, or around Rp. 13.1 billion at the current exchange rate. However, surprisingly, Rogan never removed his Bitcoin from the address. That is, he never sold or transferred his Bitcoin to a wallet or other exchange.

Bitcoin was also not as popular and expensive as it was in 2014. When Rogan received his first transaction that year, the price of Bitcoin was only around $829 (Rp 13 million) per coin. Bitcoin prices then fell throughout the year, and only reached new records in 2017. By then, Rogan had raised most of its Bitcoins, whose value was still far below his latest business deal.

In 2020, Rogan signed an exclusive contract with Spotify worth 250 million (Rp 3.9 trillion), according to The Wall Street Journal. The contract allows Rogan to host his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), on the music streaming platform, as well as on other platforms such as YouTube and Apple Podcasts. The contract also includes deals for proceeds based on advertising sales.

Rogan himself admits he doesn't really understand crypto, but he has great hopes for his future. In January 2022, he said, "I have a lot of hope for cryptocurrencies, really."

"I don't know much about them, but Bitcoin and Ethereum seem to be the ones people talk about the most," he added.
