BMKG Predicts Heavy Rain On Voting Day For The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the voting period and recapitulation of the vote count results for the 2024 General Election will increase rainfall with high intensity in a number of areas.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto based on the results of weather analysis, it is known that in the period 13-15 February 2024 the average high rainfall ranges from 150 mm-300 mm. Even potentially more than that. and even more than that.

He explained that this potential arose based on the fact that atmospheric dynamics conditions were significantly observed. The trigger comes from the strengthening of the Asian Monsun wind and the active wave of the rossby - kelvin equator.

The two phenomena are factors for forming a rainy cloud, wind bend patterns and elongated wind encounters in Indonesian territory.

In such weather conditions, according to Guswanto, it also increases the potential for hydrometeorological disaster situations in areas that are raining.

Referring to the BMKG report, it is known that there are 25 areas that have the potential to experience high intensity rain on February 13-15, 2024.

The 25 regions include Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, Riau, Jambi, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, West Papua, Papua.

"This information is the result of scientific observations and should not be politicized, meaning strangeness. But it must be responded with enthusiasm to increase preparedness in order to expedite the election process," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 7, as reported by Antara.

He ensured that all factual information related to weather and climate was integrated with the KPU, Bawaslu, TNI-Polri, Basarnas, BNPB and could be accessed widely by the public through the BMKGinfo application system in the 2024 General Election Weather Information channel.

Therefore, BMKG hopes that the election organizing committee or other related parties can prepare representative infrastructure so that the voting atmosphere is conducive to this information.

Guswanto gave an example, for example, the committee can place a tent or choose a building as a polling ground for locations that are safe from rain, windfall, landslides and sea waves.

"The health of voters and officers at the TPS is also noticed. Prepare raincoats or thick clothes because rain conditions are prone to illness," he said.
