KPU Calls DKPP Decision Not Changing Gibran's Candidacy To Vice President Prabowo
KPU Commissioner Idham Holik emphasized that the DKPP decision would not change Gibran Rakabuming Raka's candidacy as a candidate for vice president (cawapres) number 2.
According to him, the stipulation of Gibran, who is paired with the presidential candidate (candidate) Prabowo Subianto, has been legal in accordance with statutory regulations.
"We have determined the nomination of the president and vice president on November 13, 2023 and is legal, the nomination process is legal and everything is in accordance with the legislation," said Idham in his statement, Tuesday, February 6.
Idham assessed that the DKPP decision gave a strong warning to the Chairman of the KPU Hasyim Asy'ari and six members for accepting the registration of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a candidate for vice president (cawapres) for the 2024 General Election, as a form of appreciation.
"So basically DKPP appreciates the KPU for implementing constitutional provisions, which we know that the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding. This is not only explained in Article 24C of the 1945 Constitution, but also explained in Article 10 paragraph (1)) of Law Number 8 of 2011," he explained.
The KPU, according to Idham, will carry out the decision. "The DKPP decision has been read out and in accordance with Article 458 paragraph (14) of Law Number 7 of 2017, we as election organizers must make the decision," he said.
It is known that the DKPP issued a stern warning to the Chairman of the KPU Hasyim Asy'ari and six members for accepting the registration of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a vice presidential candidate for the 2024 election. They are suspected of violating legal certainty.
However, in its decision, DKPP stated that the nomination of Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which the KPU had announced, was in accordance with the constitution and complied with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).
