Kim Jong Un Emphasizes The Importance Of Strengthening The Navy For War Preparation

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stressed the importance of strengthening the country's naval forces and called it an "important issue" to increase "war preparation," as it visited the shipyard, according to local state media.

As reported by ANTARA from Kyodo-OANA, Friday, February 2, his call to modernize the shipbuilding industry in his country during a visit to a shipyard in the western city of Nampo was made when Pyongyang repeatedly criticized the recent shipment of US nuclear-powered submarines to South Korea.

The Korean Central News Agency did not say when Kim would visit the shipyard, but it is known that the government leader received detailed reports regarding the construction of several warships and requested the completion of a five-year national defense plan starting in 2021 which includes the development of nuclear submarines.

Kim stressed that strengthening the country's shipbuilding industry is an "important guarantee and prerequisite" for implementing the policy of the ruling Korean Labor Party in building national defense and the economy, KCNA said.

Last week, Kim reviewed a strategic cruise missile test launched from a submarine with senior naval and ruling party officials and directing tasks that must be completed regarding the construction of nuclear-powered submarines and other new-type warships, according to the news agency.
