Shin Tae-yong Admits He Received Offers From Other Countries

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, reportedly received an offer to coach other countries. This is certainly surprising news considering that he has just led the Garuda Squad to make history.

The Indonesian national team managed to penetrate the last 16 of the Asian Cup for the first time in the 2023 edition under the tutelage of Shin Tae-yong. This achievement is clearly a sweet history even though the Garuda Squad's steps were stopped after losing to Australia 0-4 on January 29, 2024.

After helping the team, in fact Shin Tae-yong revealed that there was an offer coming from another country. The offer came a week ago.

"I received the offer (coaching) about a week ago," Shin Tae-yong said in a statement quoted from Sports Kyunghyang on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

Following the statement regarding the offer, the question arose whether it came from countries in Southeast Asia, such as Vietnam. However, Shin Tae-yong denied it and he was reluctant to reveal it.

"I cannot direct anyone (any country), especially from Southeast Asia," said Shin Tae-yong.

Shin Tae-yong's contract with the Indonesian national team actually ended in December 2023. However, PSSI extended its short-term contract until June 2024 for the 2023 Asian Cup finals in Qatar.

After bringing the team through the round of 16 and stopped after the Australian meeting, Shin Tae-yong's future is clearly a polemic. There is no certainty about the new extension from PSSI.

However, currently, the South Korean coach is still committed to completing his duties with the Indonesian national team until the end of June 2024.

"There is talk of renewing the contract. I could have paid a fine and went elsewhere. However, for now, I will keep my promise to extend the contract period with Indonesia until June 2024," said Shin Tae-yong.

The agenda of the Indonesian national team is still ongoing. In March 2024, they will again appear in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian Zone against Vietnam.
