Prabowo-Gibran Targets Tax Ratio Up To 23 Percent, Faisal Basri: Entrepreneurs Will Escape
JAKARTA - Senior economist Faisal Basri doubts the fantastic target of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair who wants to increase the tax ratio by 23 percent. This target can make entrepreneurs flee abroad.
"Those people may be out of Indonesia. So what can't be too fantastic is that," said Faisal, Monday, January 29.
Indonesia's current tax ratio is 9 percent. So, the target of increasing the tax ratio of 23 percent is something crazy.
"Prabowo-Gibran is cool, he is determined. So now it's a 9 percent tax ratio," said Gibran 23 percent. "It's really going crazy," he said.
On the other hand, Faisal suspects that Gibran does not understand his vision and mission well. In the document, he mentions that the 23 percent tax ratio submitted by Gibran is a combination of taxes and non-tax revenues.
"That's also big. Because now the taxes are not 3 percent. 9 percent added 3 percent now, that's only 12 percent. (Pribowo-Gibran's target) 23 percent. In 5 years, yes, for example, tax people pay taxes right, Pak Prabowo pays taxes right, everything pays taxes right, you can, but you have to be radical," said Gibran.
Prabowo-Gibran's tax target was mentioned in the vice presidential debate on Friday (22/12/2023). Initially, the vice presidential candidate number 3, Mahfud MD said that the target tax ratio of 23 percent of the GDP set by Prabowo-Gibran did not make sense.

Answering Mahfud's question, Gibran said he and Prabowo would no longer use the 'burying in the zoo' strategy to increase this tax ratio.
President Joko Widodo's son said he would extensify by increasing the number of taxpayers, so that the number of taxpayers also increased.
"We do not want to hunt in the zoo. We want to expand the zoo, we plant the animals, we fat it," said Gibran.
