UKW PWI Together With SOEs, 31 Bengkulu Journalists Stated Competent
BENGKULU After passing a series of theoretical and practical exams, 31 journalists were declared competent in the PWI Journalist Competency Test (UKW) with the Ministry of SOEs at the Mercure Bengkulu Hotel. The activity which took place on January 25-26, 2024, not only presented a certification test, but also featured a journalistic competition with a total prize of IDR 50 million. Announcement of the winner of the competition is scheduled for July 2024.
A total of 32 participants from various levels, including five main class people, 23 young classes, and five middle class, managed to complete the certification exam for PWI members journalists. At the closing of the event, out of the total participants, 31 people were announced to have graduated as competent journalists, while one participant still needed increased competence. UKW activities are divided into 3 categories, namely Utama (5 people), Madya (5 people), and Muda (22 people).
In an effort to support the improvement of the quality of journalists, Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah, as conveyed by the Expert Staff for Law and Politics Murlin Hanizar, SP., MSI, expressed his appreciation for UKW. Rohidin hopes that the Bengkulu Province PWI will remain a partner of the local government in creating quality journalists who are able to present accurate, balanced, and constructive news.
BNI Bengkulu Business Manager Branch, Mulyadi Majid, SE, highlighted the importance of the BUMN AKHLAK culture which is expected to be implemented by journalists. According to him, UKW's activities are a positive step in increasing the professionalism of journalists, which is expected to produce balanced news.
Muhammad Riadh, Chief of Operational Staff of Shipping from PT ASDP, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of UKW. In his view, UKW can produce journalists who are competent and able to present news according to the journalistic code of ethics.
In addition to the certification exam, this event also involved a journalistic competition with the theme "The Role of SOEs Towards Press Progress Through UKW", with a total prize of IDR 50 million. The announcement of the winner of the journalistic competition is scheduled for July 2024.
Director of Central PWI UKW, Dr. Firdaus Komar MSi, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of SOEs, BNI, and ASDP for their support for PWI UKW in Bengkulu. This support is expected to strengthen the synergy between the press industry and the BUMN sector for mutual progress.
At the closing of the XXIII UKW in Bengkulu, Dr. Zacky Antoni as the head of the test team, congratulated the 32 participants who had participated in UKW. Thanks were also conveyed to all parties involved in the success of this event, including BUMN, in this case PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), who are sponsors who also support the development of journalists and media in Bengkulu.
