Myanmar Military Attacks Aung San Suu Kyi's Party Office, Police Are Ignorant

JAKARTA - The National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi announced that the Yangon Police had ignored reports of alleged law violations during the raids on the NLD headquarters on February 9.

There are two locations for the NLD headquarters which were raided by the Myanmar military personnel who carried out the February 1 coup, namely the NLD headquarters in Shwe Gone Daing, the Municipality of Bahan and the office of the Executive Committee in Tamwe Township.

"The NLD made a police report regarding the alleged violation of the law in this raid on February 10. The report was received by (police), but no investigation has yet been carried out," said NLD-elected member of the Myanmar Parliament U Soe Lay, telling The Irrawaddy.

He added that his party would take further legal steps regarding the report made, even though the police tried to ignore the attack on the Aung San Suu Kyi party office.

Meanwhile, U Kyi Win's lawyer slammed the police for ignoring reports of alleged violations of the law in the raids on the NLD office by the Myanmar military.

"That's not true. The Myanmar police don't follow their procedures," he said.

Earlier, the Myanmar military raided the headquarters and offices of the executive committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) Party, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, in two separate locations on February 9. This coincided with the imposition of a curfew.

Following protests against the increasingly widespread coup in Myanmar, the Military Junta announced a curfew, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., and prohibited gatherings of more than five people.

At exactly 10 p.m., Myanmar military personnel moved to two office locations, namely the NLD headquarters in Shwe Gone Daing, the Municipality of Materials and the Executive Committee office in Tamwe Township.

Arriving at the destination, the Myanmar military entered the party office by breaking down the door. It was not clear whether any party members were detained in this raid and how long the raid lasted. However, the Myanmar military is known to have taken various important items belonging to the party.

"The military confiscated property from the office, including documents and computer hard disks. We strongly condemn this illegal act by the military," said NLD Central Information Committee member U Kyi Toe.
