Abandoned In Ubud Due To Rp200 Thousand Remaining Money, Belgian Grandfather Deported From Bali

BADUNG - A grandfather of a foreign citizen (WNA) from Belgium, with the initials PGMG (61) who was abandoned in Bali, was deported by immigration officers from Bali.

"The person concerned is the holder of a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) for elderly tourists valid until February 3, 2024," said Denpasar Gede Dudy Duwita, Head of Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim), Thursday, January 25.

The natural beauty of Bali, the tradition and hospitality of local residents make these foreigners feel comfortable living in Bali. While in Bali, this Belgian grandfather relied on his monthly pension money.

Although, feeling comfortable living in Bali, these foreigners face several challenges while in Bali, including losing their passports in November 2023 and financial limitations. This made him decide to visit the Ubud Police, in Gianyar Regency, Bali, on December 17, 2023.

PGMG came to the Ubud Police because he admitted that he could not access credit cards and could only use debit cards. While the remaining Rp200 thousand which could not be enough to survive.

This foreign citizen was also assisted by the Ubud Police and handed over to the Gianyar Satpol PP to be handled in accordance with applicable regulations.

This Belgian citizen is then recommended to be handed over to the Denpasar Immigration Office so that it can be handled in accordance with immigration provisions.

"After an investigation and evaluation of the case, the decision to cancel the residence permit and deportation was taken at the same time to facilitate treatment in Belgium for his illness," he said.

Because deportation has not been carried out, the Immigration Office Class I TPI Denpasar handed over these foreigners to the Denpasar Rudenim on December 18, 2023.

After being detention/secured for 35 days, the family in Belgium is willing to pay for their return ticket. This grandfather also returned to his country of origin.

"The person concerned has been deported through Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on January 23, 2024 in the morning with the final destination of Brussels International Airport - Belgium under the escort of Denpasar Rudenim officers," he said.
