Targeting 27 PLTMG, Government Wants To Attract Investors To Develop Gasification Program

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) continues to attract investors to be involved in the PT PLN (Persero) power generation gasification program.

For this reason, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with the Ministry of SOEs and PLN are discussing a strategy in a program that aims to increase the use of clean energy and efficiency in the provision of electricity.

The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman Hutajulu, said that the program to convert diesel to gas (gasification) generators will provide great benefits for the country and also meet domestic needs. Through gasification, the use of fuel can be reduced while increasing clean energy.

"This gasification program is planned to target 27 Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTMG) with a total capacity of around 2,269 MW," said Jisman to the media, Thursday, January 25.

Jisman then detailed that the total capacity consists of 25 existing PLTMGs that have operated a total of 999 MW, 1 PLTMG in the construction stage with a total of 120 MW, and 1 PLTMG Huadi cluster in the planning stage with a total of 1,150 MW.

Jisman said the profits of listrk generators using gas include reducing oil imports to maintain trade balance, contributing added value and multiplier effect to the people's economy in the regions, fulfilling the commitment of the Paris Agreement, and fulfilling the energy mix target in the National Energy Policy.

Jisman explained that this gasification program was grouped into the Kalimantan Cluster, Sulawesi-Maluku-Huadi Cluster, Nusa Tenggara Cluster, North Papua Cluster and South Papua Cluster.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continues to monitor the progress of project implementation and coordinate gas needs by PLN which will increase as the gasification project for PLTMG is completed in stages from December 2024 to the end of 2026," concluded Jisman.
