Mahfud MD: Social Assistance From The State Is Not Because Of People's Generosity

JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number three, Mahfud MD reminded that social assistance (bansos) is not from the government, let alone individuals. The provision comes from the state and the procurement is regulated legally.

This was conveyed by Mahfud when asked about social assistance at the 'Professional Contract' event which was held on Tuesday, January 23 and broadcast on YouTube.

"The social assistance is not assistance from the government, but assistance from the state," said Mahfud, quoted on Wednesday, January 24.

"The social assistance is not because of someone's generosity, but is indeed in the legal provisions. The social assistance cannot be seen as assistance from someone, which results in the social assistance being considered alms," he continued.

Mahfud then quoted the 1945 Constitution as Article 34 Paragraph 1 which states that the poor and neglected are cared for by the state. However, recently social assistance became a polemic because it was allegedly used to win certain pairs in the 2024 presidential election.

In addition, there are still social assistance that are not right on target. Because people who need help don't get it.

So that in the future Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD is committed to solving the problem. There are a number of ways, including cleaning up population data, adding social security programs, and presenting the Sakti KTP program.

"We will solve it through policy," he concluded.
