Dodhy Calls Andika Mahesa Jalani Recording First Album With Prisoner Status

JAKARTA - Dodhy told how Kangen Band recorded the debut album About Me, You & Him. At that time, he called Andika Mahesa a vocalist doing recordings with the status of a prisoner.

Before heading to Jakarta to undergo a recording session, Andika was serving a prison term in one of the prisons in Lampung.

"Yes, we have said frankly to the producer, if actually our vocalist is still in prison," said Dodhy, launching Dewa Budjana's YouTube channel, Monday, January 22.

Because he wanted to debut immediately in the national music industry, Kangen Band and the label decided to arrange for Andika to be transferred to the Cipinang Penitentiary (LP).

"Finally, Andika was transferred from Lampung to the Cipinang prison," said Dodhy.

"After being transferred, he came out (from detention) a day away, his escort paid how much million, to take vocals," he continued.

Because the time allowed for Andika was not enough to record all the songs on the album, Kangen Band decided that only five songs were sung by the vocalist.

"The first album was the one who sang me five and Andika five. Because Andika was limited in time, she had to finish five songs in one day. Well, that day Andika finished five songs," said Dodhy.

Furthermore, Dodhy said that the early days of Kangen Band's promotion in Jakarta were passed by Andika, who was still in prison. In fact, the photo shoot process for the album was carried out at the Cipinang Prison.

"Andika) goes back to Cipinang. We shoot at the prison," concluded Dodhy.
