Watch Out! Sea Wave Height In South Bali Waters Is Estimated To Up To Four Meters
DENPASAR - The potential wind speed is estimated to be up to 25 knots or 46 kilometers per hour in the waters south of Bali, 21-23 January 2024, which is a major concern of the Denpasar Region III Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Center (BBMKG).
BBMKG also asked residents to be aware of the 25 knots in the southern waters of Bali.
"There is wind convergence around the Bali area that supports convective cloud growth," said Head of BBMKG Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho in Denpasar, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 20.
Based on observations of BBMKG Denpasar, the wind in the southern waters of Bali is estimated to be moving from the southwest-west.
The wind speed drives the potential for sea wave heights in the southern waters of Bali, estimated at up to four meters.
Denpasar BBMKG noted that the maximum wave could reach twice the estimated wave height.
His party detailed that during the period from January 21-23, it is estimated that the wind speed in the waters of the Bali Sea, the southern part of the Bali Strait, the Badung Strait, the southern part of the Lombok Strait reached up to 20 knots or 37 kilometers per hour which moved from the west-northwest and southwest-west with the potential for sea wave heights reaching up to 2.5 meters.

The general weather in Bali during this period is estimated to be cloudy but there is the potential for light to moderate rain in most parts of Bali.
Apart from the convergence of the wind, the weather conditions were also caused by the Julian Madden Oscillation (MJO) in the fourth quadrant which contributed to the process of forming rain clouds in Indonesian territory.
MJO, based on BMKG data, is an activity in the tropics in the form of movements of convection activity moving east from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
The sea surface temperature in Bali ranges from 29-31 degrees Celsius and the wet air mass is concentrated from the surface layer to a layer of 500 millibar (5,500 meters).
Denpasar BBMKG conveyed that wind and sea waves are at risk for shipping safety. Fishing boat users are asked to be aware of wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave heights above 1.25 meters, while barge operators are advised to be vigilant when the wind is more than 16 knots and wave height is above 1.5 meters.
Ferry operators are asked to be aware of wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 meters.
