Regarding The Target For Oil Lifting 1 Million Barrels, DEN: Very Heavy

JAKARTA - In order to increase the national energy security assessment index, the National Energy Council (DEN) recommends increasing national petroleum production.

It is known that currently the government has targeted the oil lifting target of 1 million barrels per day (BOPD) by 2030.

Secretary General of the National Energy Council Djoko Siswato said that this target is very difficult to achieve considering that the realization of oil lifting has only reached 605.5 thousand BOPDs and has not yet reached the target set in 2023, which is 660 thousand BOPDs.

"There is a raw oil program of 1 million barrels but yes, it is still very difficult," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 17.

Having served as Director General of Oil and Gas, Djoko said that the decline in production in the oil and gas field is a natural thing, especially if the scheme used is business as usual (BaU).

He gave an example of the decline that occurred in Banyu Urip Field, operated by ExxonMobil Cepu, has reached the peak of production and then experienced a decline in production.

"Each oil field is from sharp, sharp, horizontal (production). Each field is set by POD, the maximum number of wells for maximum drilling, when it reaches peak it will go down, regardless of where it is drilled in the same place, the fact is still decline, right," continued Djoko.

In the national strategy, he said, there are four ways to increase domestic oil production, including exploration, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Reserve to Production (RtoP), and Business as Usual.

With the continued decline in oil production, Joko said that the KKKS and SKK Migas should have used 3 other schemes, especially EOR and RTOP.

According to him, the target of 1 million barrels in 2030 can still be pursued during the KKKS and SKK Migas using these 4 methods in parallel.

"Can you do the 2030 target? Yes. With a note, not just one way. The four of them must be parallel and all must support. If it's only BAU, drilling, workover, well service, the fact is go down. Thousands of wells have been drilled and the decline is down," concluded Djoko.
