VW-Based Multi-Electric Power Explorer Ford Starts Production June 2024

JAKARTA - Car manufacturer Ford promises the launch of Volkswagen-based Ford Explorer (VW) can be done early, but in reality some challenges arise and experience eight months of production delays.

However, the latest news from ArenaEV, Wednesday, January 17, reports that an electric Explorer will finally launch in June, with the first shipment expected to reach customers in August.

Electric explorers are a significant step in Ford's transition to electric vehicles in Europe. Built in partnership with Volkswagen on the MEB platform, the SUV combines German technology with American-style designs.

When electric Explorer finally comes, the model will be available in two trims for the European market, namely Explorer and Explorer Premium, with a base price expected to start at under 45,000 euros or around IDR 765 million.

Once launched, this product will enter a segment where price competition is very tight. For example, Chinese car manufacturer BYD has cut the price of its electric SUV, Atto 3, to 15 percent in Germany, raising questions about Ford's ability to compete.

Ford, who works in this three-line electric SUV, has confirmed its design for land travel, promising a wide interior space and range of up to 350 miles (563 km). Although Ford has not provided specific price details, the company puts the SUV an attractive option for American consumers.

Ford's ambition in Europe is not limited to electric Explorer. The company plans to completely switch to electric vehicles in Europe by 2035, with a product line that includes nine electric vehicles. Electric explorers are expected to play an important role in achieving Ford's goal of selling 600,000 electric vehicles annually in Europe by 2026.
