TKN: If There Is Jokowi's Impeachment, The People Will Defend

JAKARTA - Secretary of TKN Prabowo-Gibran Nusron Wahid believes that the Indonesian people will defend if there is an impeachment movement against President Joko Widodo. Because he said, Jokowi was directly elected by the people through the general election. Nusron also felt strange about the issue of impeachment. Moreover, Petition 100, which is the originator of the impeachment issue, came to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who is currently also the Vice Presidential Candidate number 3.

"I think, if for example there is an impeachment movement, the people will defend it. Why? Because Jokowi was directly elected by the people, the elite could not bring down, especially since a group of people in the pick mark did not have credentials," said Nusron at the TKN Media Center, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 17.

In fact, continued Nusron, members of the MPR could not bring down the president before being brought to the Constitutional Court that the head of state was declared to have violated the 1945 Constitution. "So the issue of impeachment is an issue that is not playing games. If an intellectual person talks about the issue of impeachment, yes, he does have a certain political agenda, the point is that he is not ready to compete in this democratic era," said the Golkar legislator. Nusron assessed that there are parties who are afraid of losing the presidential election behind this impeachment issue. According to him, the party that campaigns for the issue does not think democratically. "This is a person who thinks it is not democratic or a person who is afraid of democracy, or should not be afraid of losing because there is a democratic system, that's in my opinion," said Nusron. "Moreover, those who accept it are people in the on the system, part of the government that will be impeached," he continued.

Even so, Nusron said he still trusted Mahfud MD as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. According to him, Mahfud will not be carried away by the flow of this misleading issue. This is because the former chairman of the Constitutional Court is a constitutional law expert who knows about the mechanism for impeachment procedures. "Mr. Mahfud will not participate in the issue of impeachment issues. That maybe he is limited to receiving guests, then the guest talks like that, I am still within the limit of understanding, positive thinking," said Nusron. "But if you want to do impeachment, let the people judge. So all this time there is a impeachment movement? Yes, right," he added.
