Mahfud Wants To Change The Name Of The KPK And Restore The Old Law, Nawawi: It's Better To Say Before Being A Vice Presidential Candidate
JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango said that the presidential and vice presidential candidates had offered various promises to the public during the campaign. No exception is the vice presidential candidate number 3, Mahfud MD, who promised to return the old KPK Law to change the name of the anti-corruption commission.
"Regarding the statements that want to change the name of the KPK or the effort to restore the KPK Law Number 32 of 2002, it is okay for them to convey that," Nawawi said at a press conference at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta (Jaksel), Tuesday, January 16.
Even so, Nawawi highlighted the statement that came out of Mahfud. "It was better at that time when he was not a vice presidential candidate," he said.
"That's basically they are welcome to convey it," continued Nawawi.

As previously reported, Mahfud said that Law Number 30 of 2002 concerning the KPK had the opportunity to be returned to its original state before being revised to win the 2024 presidential election. This possibility is open to restoring the glory of the KPK.
This was conveyed by Mahfud MD in the Operation of the Ideas and Vision of the Candidate for National Leaders which was held at the Baruga Building Andi Pangeran Pettarani Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
Initially, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs talked about the level of confidence of the Anti-corruption Commission which decreased after the revision of the KPK Law. So, he considered that there needed to be improvement, one of which was through the re-implementation of the old law.
"Frankly, the law was returned to the former. That's what matters," he said to the roar of applause from students.
In addition, Mahfud also talked about changing the name of the KPK. The word 'Commission' is considered less strengthening the image of a law enforcement agency whose main task is to deal with corruption.
