Mahfud MD Calls SOEs Many Collaps, Stafsus Erick Thohir: That's Not True

JAKARTA - Candidate for Vice President (cawapres) number 03 Mahfud MD considers that many state-owned enterprises (BUMN) are problematic. In fact, he said that there were many collapses due to corruption, especially in the field of infrastructure.

Responding to this, the Special Staff of the Minister of SOEs Arya Sinulingga denied the assumption that the state-owned company in the infrastructure sector had collapsed. Arya said not all state-owned companies collapsed.

"We would like to thank Mr. Mahfud MD for the input on BUMN. But we need to clarify, Mr. Mahfud is also part of the cabinet, if you say all the BUMN collapses, the infrastructure, Mr. Mahfud knows that's not true," Arya told reporters, quoted Friday, January 12.

Arya assessed that Mahfud understood the efforts to clean up SOEs that were carried out, even the program was successful. Arya also said Mahfud also knew that cases in a number of SOEs had occurred for a long time.

For example, said Arya, in the Waskita Karya case, where the problem at BUMN Karya began in 2012. At that time, Waskita carried out an initial public offering (IPO) which was followed by poor investments since then.

"We know about SOE corruption, I think Mr. Mahfud in the cabinet must have heard of us for 4 years cleaning up his SOEs," he said.

Arya revealed the legal process at problematic SOEs. In fact, said Arya, Erick Thohir also reported a number of findings of indications of corruption directly to the Attorney General's Office and was proven guilty.

"In fact, it's never been there all this time and life is in the law, the sentence is life. That's what we also report," he said.

Arya also mentioned other cases such as Jiwasraya, Asabri, and Garuda Indonesia. According to Arya, Mahfud MD must know about the legal process.

"Thank you Mr. Mahfud for the input, and hopefully we also hope that the cases submitted by Mr. Mahfud will continue until the court. Because like us in BUMN as well, sir, go to court, some are punished," said Arya.
