Minister Of Industry Agus Gumiwang Invites Vietnam To Cooperate To Develop Electric Vehicles

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita invited Vietnam to work together to develop a number of potential collaborations, including the electric vehicle industry, green industry, food security, as well as supporting industrial sectors such as strengthening R&D and Human Resources.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Industry in his meeting with Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien in Hanoi, Thursday (11/1), in a series of agendas of Minister of Industry Agus accompanying Indonesian President Joko Widodo on state visits in Vietnam.

"We invite the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade to continue to discuss with us in order to strengthen this cooperation and collaboration," he said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, January 12.

Agus said, Indonesia is a very large market for the automotive sector. Data shows that car ownership in Indonesia is 19.1 million units while motorcycles are 128 million units. In addition, the projected demand for batteries for electric vehicles in Indonesia is also expected to increase in the future.

Minister of Industry Agus hopes that the two countries can support each other for holding the ASEAN Minister of Industry Meeting which is routinely held every year because opportunities and challenges in the industrial sector will be increasingly visible.

Indonesia is currently ranked in the top 10 world manufacturing with a global manufacturing output value of 1.4 percent, according to a report released by Security Global. Meanwhile, based on World Population Review data, Indonesia ranks 12th and Vietnam is 23rd.

Until November 2023, Indonesia's investment investment investment investment in Vietnam reached US$651.21 million with a total of 120 projects. Indonesia's investment realization occupies the 5th position among ASEAN countries that have investment capital in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is still the destination country for Vietnamese investors in investing in the industrial sector. In 2023, there was an increase in the realization of Vietnam's investment in Indonesia with a value of 1.5 million US dollars or an increase of 6.1 percent from the previous year. Investment in the industrial sector includes the paper and printing industry as well as the basic metal industry, metal goods, not machinery and equipment.
