KCI Negotiations On KRL Imports From 5 Manufacturing, Japan Is One Of Them
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) revealed the development of the plan to import three new series of electric train sets (KRL). Currently, it is in the negotiation stage of the five manufacturers. KCI also opens up the possibility of imports from various countries, one of which is Japan.
KAI Commuter President Director Asdo Artriviyanto said his party already had several references based on the coordination of the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation (DJKA Kemenhub).
"We have several references, and we have assistance from the Directorate General of Train regarding specifications so that they are not wrong, and adjusted to the conditions of infrastructure here, electricity, track, width of trains, and not technically detailed, which must be in accordance with the infrastructure here," he said at a press conference, at the KAI Commuter Office, Jakarta, Thursday, January 11.
Asdo said there are five manufacturers that have specs in accordance with infrastructure in Indonesia. However, his party is still considering which of the five are more profitable.
For your information, the KRL import budget of 3 trainsets will come from state capital participation (PMN) given by the government to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI. Where the PMN given is IDR 5 trillion with a gradual disbursement, as much as IDR 2 trillion will be disbursed this year.
"There are five manufacturers whose prospects can be included in the infrastructure in Indonesia," he explained.

Regarding the country of origin of the five manufacturers, Asdo was reluctant to reveal it. However, he said, his party was exploring cooperation with several countries, including Japan.
"There are other countries," he said.
Asdo also revealed the import of these three trainsets to anticipate a surge in passengers in 2024. Moreover, it is projected that there will be an increase in passengers this year.
"The new train is completely new. So we are pursuing this so that in 2024 it can be delivered in Indonesia according to the program we convey to the government," he said.
