Anies Baswedan: Dhaup Ageng Reflects The High Value Of Javanese Culture

YOGYAKARTA - Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan said the title "Dhaup Ageng" or the wedding of the youngest son of the ruler of Pakualaman Temple KGPAA Paku Alam X, BPH Kusumo Kuntonugroho reflects the high cultural value of Java.

"This is a grand marriage that reflects the high cultural value of Java in the entire series of wedding processions and receptions," said Anies after attending the "Dhaup Ageng" reception at Pakualaman Temple, Yogyakarta, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 10.

Anies, who was accompanied by his wife Fery Farhati Ganis, admitted that he expressed his hope to BPH Kusumo Kuntonugroho and the bride Laily Annisa Kusumastuti so that the noble tradition in Pakualaman would be preserved later.

"We feel the noble customs of culture and that is a tradition that must be maintained, developed because I told Paku Alam X, his family and two brides," he said.

For Anies, the grand marriage is not just a procession that brings the two brides together as husband and wife, but a cultural event that is a condition of noble values.

He was honored to be given the opportunity to attend and his wife to witness the Dhaup Ageng reception in person, as well as convey their blessing to the two brides.

"Hopefully they will not only become happy families, families who get blessings, but also families who will continue to maintain and develop noble traditions that we have both felt and witnessed today," he said.

Apart from Anies, a number of figures, including ministers such as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD as well as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono attended the reception on the first day of Dhaup Ageng.

Also present were Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for the 2014-2019 period, Susi Pudjiastuti, to the sons of presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo, Muhammad Zinedine Alam Ganjar.

Kadipaten Pakualaman Yogyakarta held the wedding ceremony of BPH Kusumo Kuntonugroho, the youngest son of KGPAA Paku Alam X, who married Dr Laily Annisa Kusumastuti, daughter of Dr. Tri Prabowo.

The series of Dhaup Ageng events have started from January 7 and lasted for five days until January 11, 2024.

Various Javanese traditional processions typical of Pakualaman ranging from proposals, majang and pairs of tarub, ngantri, siraman, santing, midodareni, marriage contracts, receptions, to goodbyes to be held stage by stage in a lively manner.
