Inspector General Napoleon Called Prosecutors Failed To Prove Himself Receiving Bribes From Tommy Sumardi

JAKARTA - Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte said that during the trial the public prosecutor (JPU) could only prove that there was a meeting between him and Tommy Sumardi. However, it has never proven the acceptance of bribes.

This statement was conveyed by Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte during a follow-up hearing in the case of alleged bribery for the removal of a red notice as a defendant with a defense agenda (pledoi).

"Regarding the indictment against us who are deemed to have received a sum of money from Tommy Sumardi, it turns out that the Prosecutor can only prove the fact of an incident where Tommy Sumardi has met with us 3 times", said Napoleon during a trial at the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta, Monday, 22 February.

Napoleon said the prosecutor only proved that his meeting with Tommy Sumardi took place at the office of the Head of the Division (Kadiv) International Relations of the National Police. The meeting was also said to take place at the beginning of April, 16 April, and 4 May 2020.

In fact, Napoleon also mentioned the NCB of the National Police letters which were used by the prosecutor as a basis for evidence which was also fruitless. Because, based on the existing regulations, the letter was in accordance.

"It turns out that it is by the obligations that must be carried out by NCB Interpol Indonesia as stipulated in statutory provisions, several regulations of the National Police Chief, as well as in the provisions of Interpol", he said.

Previously, Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte was charged with imprisonment for 3 years. Also, he was asked to pay a fine of IDR 100 million, a subsidiary of 6 months.

The prosecutor's decision regarding the charges against Inspector General Napoleon was based on two considerations. Both things are burdensome and lighten.

For burdensome things, Inspector General Napoleon is considered not to support the government in eradicating corruption, collusion, and nepotism. The defendant's actions damaged the public's trust in law enforcement agencies.

While something mitigating, the defendant Inspector General Napoleon was considered cooperative during the trial. Then Rua also committed a crime only once.

In this case, Inspector General Napoleon was said to have accepted bribes from Joko Tjandra. The bribe was intended to remove Joko Tjandra's name from the red notice list.

When receiving the bribe, Inspector General Napoleon was still the Head of the International Relations Division of the National Police. He is said to have received 200 thousand Singapore dollars and 370 thousand US dollars from Tommy Sumardi.

Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte was charged with accepting bribes together with Brigadier General Prasetijo, who at that time served as Head of the PPNS Police Supervisory Coordinator Bureau. However, in the charge, Brigadier General Prasetijo is said to have received 100 thousand US dollars.
