2 Days Missing, Malang Students Found Dead In The Brantas River

A body of a man with the initials MA (24 years old), a resident of Perumnas II, Talangagung Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, East Java, was found dead floating in the Brantas River, Kalipare District, last Monday.

Before being found dead, the victim, who was registered as a student at a university in Malang City, was reported missing by his family to the Malang Police.

Kasihumas Malang Police, Ipda Muhammad Adnan, said that the discovery of the body began with information from residents who were cleaning fish nets in the Brantas River, Cungkal Hamlet, Sumberpetung Village, Kalipare District. At that time residents saw a corpse floating in a rotting river.

"Initially we received information from residents regarding the discovery of the body of a man in a lifeless condition floating in the Brantas river, Kalipare District," said Adnan, Tuesday, January 9.

According to Adnan, residents who knew about the incident immediately reported it to the local village apparatus and the police. Officers then came to investigate the case and evacuated the body to the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Kanjuruhan, Kepanjen for a post mortem et repertum.

From the initial examination, said Adnan, the Inafis team managed to identify the bodies found through the victim's fingerprints. "From the fingerprints, it was revealed that the victim was identified with the initials MA (24) a resident of Perumnas II, Talangagung Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency," he said.

Adnan added that when found, the victim was only wearing a black t-shirt and underwear. All over the victim's body there were bruises on the corpse which were thought to have been injured because they were hit by rocks along the river.

"The condition of the corpse has been decomposed, but the family still memorizes the characteristics of the t-shirt worn by the victim," he explained.

Adnan said, based on family information, it was last known that the Supreme Court was not at home on Saturday, January 6 at around 14.30 WIB. This was then reported to the Malang Police on Sunday, January 7 for a search.

"Before leaving the house, the Supreme Court also did not show unusual behavior," he said.

Currently, the Malang Police are still investigating the discovery of the victim's body. Officers also asked for statements from a number of witnesses.

"Meanwhile, to determine the cause of death of the victim, the police will conduct an autopsy on the victim's body," he concluded.
