JAKARTA - Legal expert, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, agreed to be a witness to lighten or a de charge for Firli Bahuri who is a suspect in the alleged extortion case against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL. Polda Metro Jaya scheduled an examination of him on Monday, January 15.

"That's right, the person concerned was summoned by investigators for questioning on Monday, January 15," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak, to VOI, Friday, January 5.

The plan is that the investigation of Yusril Ihza Mahendra will be carried out at the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.

Meanwhile, Prof. Romli Atmasasmita, which was also submitted by Firli Bahuri's camp, has refused to be used as a mitigating witness. Therefore, Romli will not be questioned even though a summons had previously been sent on the same day as Yusril Ihza Mahendra.

"The results of the confirmation with Prof. Romli, he was not willing to be a de charge witness for the suspect FB," said Ade.

Firli Bahuri proposed three witnesses to lighten or a de charge in the alleged extortion case against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, who named him a suspect.

The three of them, Prof. Romli Atmasamita, Prof. Yusril Ihza Mahendra, and Prof. Suparji Ahmad.

The three names of mitigating witnesses have been submitted to Polda Metro Jaya investigators through a registered letter number 251/IISPA/XII/2023, dated December 20.

However, Romli Atmasasmita refused to be used as a mitigating witness on the grounds of not knowing and seeing the alleged extortion.

Therefore, Firli Bahuri's lawyer, Ian Iskadar, said that his team is currently looking for other parties who will be used as mitigating witnesses.

"We are still exploring several legal figures," said Ian.
