PMI Kaltara Warehouse Starts Functioning

TANJUNG SELOR - After 7 years, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) logistics warehouse in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) has finally completed its construction.

This was conveyed by the chairman of PMI Kaltara, Syaiful Herman after the inauguration of the PMI logistics warehouse, Thursday, January 4.

"Initially, it was difficult for us to get assistance and even had problems with land because it did not have certified land. So that we were able to convince the Central PMI by using land owned by PMI Bulungan which had been certified," said Syaiful.

In addition, development was also hampered by Covid-19. So that the development plan in 2020 will only be implemented in 2022.

"Of the 34 provinces at that time, only 8 provinces, including Kaltara. The PMI Kaltara logistics warehouse measuring 7 x 20 square meters, cost more than IDR 2 billion, it is able to accommodate various types of logistics for humanitarian aid," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Kaltara, Zainal A Paliwang, said the existence of this warehouse was very important for PMI Kaltara Province in carrying out its duties and functions to store various humanitarian aids such as medicines, food, clothing.

There are several warehouse facilities to support disaster preparedness, including using solar panels or environmentally friendly electricity, logistical goods, rubber boats, tents, 40pk generators and other supporting tools.

"The construction of this warehouse is very important for PMI in Kaltara and can become an Assistance Center Post in every disaster event in the region. I hope that with this warehouse PMI Kaltara can continue to contribute to providing services to the community, so that it must become a professional organization and serve in carrying out its duties and functions in the future," he said.
