Yogyakarta Station Canopy Collapses Over Five Cars, KAI Apologizes
JAKARTA - The Drop Zone canopy on the south side of Yogyakarta Station collapsed and hit five cars. The collapse of the canopy was caused by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the area.
VP of Public Relations of KAI Joni Martinus explained the chronology of the collapse of the canopy in Staisun Yoyarkarta. He said, due to heavy rain and strong winds, the support poles made of iron pipes experienced a kink and fracture so that the canopy collapsed.
"PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) apologizes for the inconvenience experienced by customers caused by the collapse of the Drop Zone canopy on the south side of Yogyakarta Station," said Joni, in an official statement, Thursday, January 4.
Joni said the collapsing canopy hit five customer cars. So that the cars suffered minor damage.
Furthermore, Joni emphasized that there were no casualties or injuries in this incident. He also said the incident did not interfere with the operation of train travel.
"Currently, KAI officers in collaboration with the local Basarnas are evacuating cars trapped in the collapse of the canopy," he said.

Joni said the vehicle owners had been delivered to a safe place and had been mutually agreed that the KAI Group would bear all the damage suffered by affected customers.
