Exclusive, Ratu Sofya Challenged In The Movie Siksa Neraka, Live a Career Full of Consequences
JAKARTA - Ratu Sofya is increasingly known thanks to her acting in her latest film, Siksa Neraka. This film is the final 2023 box office hit and is Ratu's latest achievement. This is a blessing for the Ratu because she did not expect to get this project.
“Initially, my younger sister was the one who was casting first. I had no intention of casting for this film, apparently the office invited me to cast too, so I just gave it a try," recalled Ratu Sofya when talking about the film Siksa Neraka.
"When I read the full scenario, I thought the story was interesting because when I was casting I only read a few scenes. I don't know the whole story. When I read and read everything, I felt the story was this exciting and because I passed, Alhamdulillah," she continued.
Feeling challenged, the woman who was born on April 15 took up the offer for this film, which became her second horror project during her career. In this film, Ratu plays Tyas, the quiet one of four siblings.
“Basically, it's the opposite of the original me. She is quiet and understanding and doesn't talk much. Then she is just stubborn and Tyas is a child who is very devoted to her parents," explained Ratu Sofya.
She also did not deny being called a replacement for her younger sister who was the first to audition for Siksa Neraka. The similarity of their faces cannot be denied, so many people often compare the two.
“My sister and I are almost the same height. We're three years apart in age, but maybe because my younger sibling has a smaller face, so maybe they need a character like me more," said Ratu.
Lucky for Ratu, who was said to be welcomed by her younger sister after receiving this role. "She's like she doesn't care, it means it's not her luck indeed! She's just relax. Because she's the type that will have the money but I do all the work," she said enthusiastically.
The discussion of hell relating to the afterlife is one of the reasons why Ratu Sofya is interested in this project.
“Every human being has an idea of what hell is like. And when I saw the hell visualized by the production itself, it resonated with what I imagine. Fiery, coal, cliff. When I entered the studio, wow, as expected, it was scary. But if you ask me how I feel, is it really like this? This is just human's imagination, so let's just roll with it because there will be pros and cons definitely," said Ratu again.
The 19-year-old actor did not expect the audience's enthusiasm for this film to be great, not only because it is adapted from a legendary comic but this film is also eagerly awaited by horror film lovers.
“At first, to be honest, I didn't know it would be this hype. Even when it was filmed, this was just a film that people wouldn't be very curious about. I think, about hell, people are too lazy to watch it. Who knows about the afterlife, right? It turns out that when I saw it, many people wanted to know and were curious. I was shocked there," said Ratu.
"This is the first film in Indonesia that talks about hell, before that no one has made it about hell, or even the afterlife, so I think maybe they are curious because this is the first film in Indonesia that discusses hell, the afterlife," she said repeatedly.
It cannot be denied that Ratu Sofya continued to remember her sins when filming the film Siksa Neraka. Even though this film contains CGI, it also invites the audiences to imagine the pain a person experiences when they are in the afterlife.
Want to Try Action Role
The Aceh-born actress has studied imagination since studying acting at the age of 12. Ratu Sofya said that her acting career began when she studied theater for two years at the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ).
“My coach is Dedi Trendy, my acting coach until now. He taught me from the start, imagination, how to do theater and acting from scratch until I could actually do films because he taught me every day," said Ratu Sofya.
"We used to ride all kinds of motorbikes so that I could learn acting and that's how deep theater is, so the struggle to be able to act is no joke. I've wanted to be an actress since I was little and luckily my parents also supported me and finally we moved to Jakarta to focus on the entertainment world," she recalled.
Like an adult before the age, Ratu Sofya admits that she already knows the consequences of having a career in the world of entertainment. However, rather than resigning, Ratu continues to be challenged to prove that her existence is not that fragile.
“I can imagine that the entertainment world is actually like this, it's like an abyss. There's a lot of insults, all kinds, but it doesn't matter, this is a job so we know the risks like that," she said.
"Because I've been involved, I've accepted the consequences, risks and all kinds of things, so that I exist. I didn't use social media before the entertainment world, but since I've been in entertainment, I often take photos because we have to exist and appear in the media," continued Ratu.
Apart from her wishes, Ratu is also fully supported by her family. She also enjoyed her days on the shooting location as her second home.
"In my opinion, even at home I feel bored. Shooting location is my playground, not malls and others. I enjoy being on the shooting location, everyday is shooting day if I may ask," she said bluntly.
Not yet 20 years old, Ratu Sofya is already challenged to play with various things. In the movie Siksa Neraka, she was punched and her nose was crooked, she is now trying to act in action films.
"Yesterday the horror filming had a bit of fighting scenes, until my nose was crooked from being punched, so it went a bit deeper, because in the scene, I had to fight with my father. When I saw him fighting, I was speechless, that's because I like seeing people fighting," he said.
"I want to shoot something full of action because I'm also doing theater and I'm also practicing silat boxing. I've liked martial arts since I was little, so I want to one day be invited to play in a full action film that is really all action. That's why I like watching action films, but God willing, just pray," she answered.
Ratu Sofya also mentioned Yayan Ruhian as an actor she would like to play with. When she was little, she acted alongside Yayan in the film Bima X. She also hopes to meet again in an action film project.
“I became interested in martial arts because of Uncle Yayan Ruhian. At that time I was shooting with him in the film Bima. At that time I was still a little kid, 13 years old. I saw that it was really cool if people could defend themselves," said Ratu.
"So if you ask me who to play with, I also want to play with him again. With anyone who can also give me knowledge about silat and self-defense, I really want to," said the daughter of four siblings.
Ratu Sofya always tries to live her career as full of consequences. She always accepts the situation she feels on the shooting location.
"I'm really ready because every time I jump into something, I am ready to accept the consequences and risks. Because if you're not ready, why jump in? If you fight, there's a risk of getting a little injury, a little bruising because you're bound to miss something. I know it will heal and be cured. I don't want to make it difficult," said Ratu Sofya, closing the conversation that afternoon.
