PLN Records The Peak Of Electricity Burden On New Year's Eve 2024 Capai 35 GW
PT PLN (Persero) managed to secure a national electricity system in prime conditions throughout Indonesia during the 2024 New Year celebration. PLN ensures that the electricity supply for the turn of 2024 is safe with a peak load realization of 35 Gigawatts (GW), which rose 11 percent from the peak load of the previous year. Meanwhile, the realization of power was able to supply all power plants by 50 GW. With this higher peak load condition, supply reserves are sufficient and safe.
"We are grateful that the electricity supply on New Year's Eve is in a safe condition. The entire electricity system is in normal condition. We are currently at the Java, Madura and Bali Electricity Weight Regulatory Center (Jamali) to conduct an electrical review on New Year's Eve 2024," said PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, Monday, January 1.
Darmawan added that this sufficient electricity supply is supported by the primary energy supply of PLN power plants which are also in very safe status with an average operating day (HOP) of more than 20 days, higher than the HOP standard set by the government, which is 15 days. The generator of the independent power producer (IPP) of its primary energy supply is also in a safe condition with the HOP above 15 days.
"We have advanced all of our plant maintenance, transmission lines, and distribution networks. This is done so that throughout Christmas and New Year's 2024 there will be no maintenance activities. So that the system's reliability is in the best and prime conditions," he added.
Darmawan explained that the challenge of providing electricity arises due to extreme weather in several areas. Previously, PLN had taken several anticipatory steps such as assessment and maintenance in all operating systems. PLN also ensures that potential disturbances are responded quickly, to implement anti-blackout protocols.
"Indeed, there are several areas that experience electricity disturbances due to extreme weather and disasters during the Christmas celebration, such as heavy rains that resulted in flooding in Aceh, then landslides in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra and extreme weather in Bengkayang, West Kalimantan. But with the alertness of the officers in the field, the electricity that is experiencing disturbances can be recovered quickly," he explained.
In addition, PLN also ensures the reliability of supplies for strategic and vital public locations such as airports, hospitals, and especially New Year's celebration locations. In each of these locations, supply strengthening will be carried out with the deployment of 1,800 Gensets, 750 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and 1,100 Mobile Substation Units (UGB).
During Nataru's standby period until January 8, 2024, PLN continues to alert more than 18 thousand employees and more than 63 thousand field personnel on standby 24 hours to maintain the reliability of electricity at 1,853 posts spread throughout Indonesia.
Not only in terms of the electricity network, previously PLN also ensured the readiness of supporting infrastructure for electric vehicle users by providing 624 units of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at 411 points spread throughout Indonesia.
During the Nataru holiday, the use of SPKLU increased more than 4 times compared to last year, from just 2,000 transactions to 9,000 transactions. The amount of SPKLU power consumption in Nataru this year also increased 4.5 times from last year, from only 40 thousand kWh to 190 thousand kWh. This means that the increase in the number and use of vehicles in the community is getting higher," he added.
