UKW PWI Ministry Of SOEs Begins In PWI North Sulawesi

MANADO - Implementation of the PWI Journalist Competency Test (UKW) and the Ministry of SOEs took place in Manado, North Sulawesi, Thursday-Friday, December 28. This event received full support from PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) and PT Pos Indonesia. This activity marks the start of UKW PWI-Ministry of SOEs throughout PWI Indonesian Province.

A total of 36 participants from six classes who passed the selection attended the PWI-BUMN UKW at the Luwansa Hotel Ballroom and Convention Center, Manado, North Sulawesi. The theme of this UKW activity is "Creating professional and moral journalists."

The chairman of PWI North Sulawesi, Drs Voucke Lontaan, stated that the PWI-BUMN UKW participants came from journalists working in 15 regencies in North Sulawesi Province, totaling around 800 journalists.

In general, Voucke expressed his gratitude to the Central PWI for organizing the kick-off of the UKW PWI-Ministry of SOEs in PWI North Sulawesi. "It's amazing that the Central PWI has not long ago kept its promise to hold a free UKW for PWI members throughout Indonesia," said Voucke.

Director of the Central PWI Journalists Competency Test Institute (LUKW), Dr. Firdaus Komar, MSI, explained that UKW in PWI of North Sulawesi Province is part of the target of organizing PWI-Ministry of SOEs UKW in all provinces of Indonesia. Six testers, including Firdaus himself, were involved as assessors in this competency test.

Assessors conduct key competency testing of journalists, such as understanding and compliance with journalistic ethics, laws and regulations, and regulations in the press field. They also test the ability to identify news-valued facts, build and maintain networks, and the ability to use news technology equipment.

The purpose of this UKW is to improve the quality and professionalism of journalists, maintain the dignity and dignity of citizenship, and provide more value to journalists so that they can play a strategic role in the press industry.

Erick Thohir, Minister of SOEs, supports the implementation of UKW as a step to improve the quality and competence of journalists. He acknowledged the important role of the press as a partner of the government and industry in implementing press functions, including social control.

The UKW event at PWI of North Sulawesi Province is a commitment to cooperation between SOE Minister Erick Thohir and Central PWI. PWI is expected to improve the quality and professionalism of journalists to convey quality information to the public.

After in North Sulawesi, UKW PWI and the Ministry of SOEs will be continued to all PWI of Surakarta Provinces and special areas, in accordance with the plan of the General Chairperson of the Central PWI Hendry Ch Bangun.
