Deputy Minister Of Communication And Information Affirms The Importance Of Artificial Intelligence Management (AI) For Indonesia

JAKARTA Yandex has collaborated with Kominfo and a number of leading universities in Indonesia to hold an AI (artificial intelligence) campaign in a series of seminars on several campuses. The first seminar was held at Gadjah Mada University, December 27 yesterday. In a press conference, Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of the impact of AI and collaboration with various parties.

In his presentation at the panel discussion, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information conveyed the development of AI, national and global AI governance, as well as the AI policy framework in Indonesia. Nezar Patria showed figures related to the opportunity to utilize AI and the impact of AI on Indonesian workers, which stated that 22.1 percent of workers using AI and 26.7 million were helped by him. He then talked about the global and local AI policy framework and mentioned that 2024 would be marked by a race between innovation and AI regulation.

He also mentioned that the Ministry of Communication and Information has issued a Circular on AI Ethics aimed at encouraging industry players who focus on AI-based consulting activities, as well as Electronic System Providers, to make internal policies on the use and development of AI, by adopting the values of the circular issued by MCI. According to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, ethical values such as humanism, inclusion, credibility, and accountability are essential to note in creating or adopting AI-based technology.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria: We advocate for national interests to ensure that the development of AI governance provides a basis for developing countries such as Indonesia. And voice concern that developing countries where AI governance discussions must be balanced not only on the security aspect but also on the economic impact. The event also attended the Chairperson of the Indonesian AI Society, Dr. Lukas, who spoke about the development of AI, the AI landscape in Indonesia, the personalization of AI, and ethical considerations in the use of AI. After providing an overview of the history of AI development, he spoke about AI conditions in Indonesia, including government initiatives such as the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, explained the projected growth of the AI market in this country, and mentioned the main factors that encourage AI development and adoption, as follows: as well as the challenges related to it.

Dr. Lukas also touched on the topic of AI use and data analysis to create highly personalized customer experiences, citing instances of companies like Spotify and Netflix, whose recommendation algorithms are known around the world. Finally, speakers talk about key ethical considerations in the application of AI, namely transparency, privacy, approval, security, accountability, customer experience, anonymity, avoidance of fraudulent practices, environmental impact, social responsibility, and accessibility.
