Leopards Found By Residents Of Cikalese Sukabumi Entered The Trap Of Wild Pigs

SUKABUMI - A leopard (Panthera Pardus melas) was found by residents of Cikalese Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java (West Java), entering a pig trap installed by farmers.

"It is suspected that the leopard was accidentally caught in a pig trap installed by farmers in Sekarsari Village, Kalibunder District, when they were about to find food," said Kalibunder Police Chief Iptu Taufik Hadian as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 27.

His party received reports from residents that a leopard was caught in a pig trap and immediately coordinated with the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

Not long after, the BKSDA team arrived at the location to save the rare and protected animal. Worried that something would happen, both in the leopard and residents, officers from BKSDA first teased the leopard before evacuating.

After becoming unconscious, the leopard was then evacuated to the Cikananga Animal Protection Center (PPS), Sukabumi Regency, to undergo recovery and rehabilitation, and will be released back into the wild after its condition has completely recovered.

"Alhamdulillah, from the results of the veterinarian's examination, this leopard is in good health and has received treatment from BKSDA officers and PPS Cikanga," he added.

Taufik said the farmer in Cikalese Village deliberately set up the pig trap because many wild boars entered agricultural land and damaged plants.

He suspected that the leopard had entered the pig trap while hunting for wild boars who roamed a lot in agricultural areas.

The wild boar in the village has caused a lot of harm to farmers. Not a few plants that want to be harvested have been damaged by a herd of wild boars, so angry farmers end up setting traps to catch wild boars.
