Mayor Of Medan Affirms Always Coordination With IOM And UNHCR Regarding Rohingya Refugees

JAKARTA - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution emphasized that his party always coordinates with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in handling Rohingya refugees. "We always coordinate with the IOM and UNHCR. We apologize, which we complain about communication is also very difficult sometimes with UNHCR," said Bobby in Medan, North Sumatra, Saturday, quoted by Antara. His party said, several times the refugees, including expressing opinions at the Medan Mayor's office, have been carried out and received quite well. Meanwhile, his party also does not want the Rohingya refugee problem in the Medan City area to be a trigger to negative things in the international eyes. "We always convey it not to the mayor's right to place refugees into third countries. Then we communicate with UNHCR, but also it is difficult," he said. The mayor also admitted that until now his party is still having difficulty finding UNHCR offices, both in Medan City and North Sumatra Province. "It's just like us, we don't want to be told. Yes, we need coordination, we need communication in resolving the problems of the people in the city of Medan, or those living in the city of Medan," said Bobby.Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md this week said the government was gathering three refugee targets provinces while Rohingya was in a forkopimda meeting. "Now we are holding three Rohingya refugee targets, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and Riau for a joint for a meeting of Forkopimda looking for a temporary place," said Mahfud. The Aceh Provincial Government mentions the number of Rohingya refugees in the westernmost province of Indonesia, Pidie District, and Lhokseumawe City.
