Alert! Kaspersky Finds Phishing Site Amid Wonka Film Popularity
JAKARTA - Currently, Wonka is getting a lot of attention. As usual, the momentum of the Wonka film euphoria is widely used by cybercriminals to launch their actions.
Kaspersky experts have uncovered a scheme of cybercriminals who have taken advantage of the popularity around the sensational film since before its launch to distribute online phishing scams.
Initially, the criminals offered free streaming of film stories ahead of worldwide public releases, fraudsters used the surveymonkey survey site to captivate fans, with offers to watch Wonka.
"Some time after clicking on a link to a fake site, instead of looking at the world of pure imagination and unreleased films, users were instead greeted with a request to register to watch the full film," Kaspersky explained.
The site then directs fans to the pop-up screen, which asks for bank card details and personal identification numbers, as well as details such as name, address, phone number, and other sensitive data.

In addition to the financial risk of sending their money and personal data directly to the fraudster, Kaspersky also said that Wonka fans who are not suspicious of their possible stolen information could potentially be sold on the dark web.
"We urge film fans to practice safe online habits so they can enjoy Wonka and other premiere films while protecting themselves and their privacy from cybercriminals," said Egor Bubnov, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky.
