Yemeni And Syrian Citizens In A Gang Of 3 Gold Necklace Thieves In East Manggar Belitung Arrested By Police

The East Belitung Police, Bangka Belitung Islands, managed to apprehend two foreign nationals (WNA) each with the initials SK (45) from Yemen and YA (54) from Syria who stole three gold necklaces at a gold shop in Manggar, East Belitung.

"We managed to secure two foreigners who stole three gold necklaces at a gold shop located in the Manggar area, East Belitung," said East Belitung Police Chief, AKBP Arif Kurniatan in Manggar as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 14.

The two foreigners stole three gold necklaces worth Rp. 50 million at the Suwarna Baru gold shop, Manggar, East Belitung. The theft was caught on a shop surveillance camera.

After stealing, the two foreigners immediately went to Pangkalpinang to escape and sell the stolen gold.

"We immediately coordinated with the Pangkalpinang Police and the Bangka Belitung Police to secure the perpetrators and then we took the perpetrators to East Belitung by sea to account for the act," he said.

According to the suspect, the theft was carried out due to economic factors and living expenses.

"They need money for their next life," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Belitung Police, AKP Fatah Meilana, said he would coordinate with Interpol and immigration to resolve the case of gold theft by the two foreigners.

"Because this concerns foreigners, of course, they must involve a number of parties to find out the extent of their role and the validity of the identities of the two foreigners," he said.
