After Hybrid, Toyota Explores EV Version Of Hilux Development

JAKARTA - Some time ago, Toyota launched the latest Hilux Hybrid 48V as a low-emission vehicle. Carrying a 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel engine combined with a 48V millid-hybrid lithium-ion battery self-developed by the manufacturer. However, Toyota is still developing a formidable environmentally friendly vehicle.

In order to realize the multi-path' approach towards carbon neutrality, the manufacturer plans to present various types of vehicles such as hybrid, EV, and Fuel-Cell Hydrogen in the future. The Hilux EV has the potential to be a production version in the future.

According to Emmanuel Beaune, Head of the Toyota Motor Europe Light Commercial Vehicle, his party is conducting testing and investigating so that the product can be realized.

"So, it's too early to comment on the current electricity Hilux. There have been several investigations, but I can't say much more," he said as quoted by Top Gear, Tuesday, December 12.

Beaune added that currently, 30 percent of Toyota's car sales in Europe are filled by the pickup segment, and consumers show interest if this type of car is presented in the form of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

"Say there's some demand there. That's why we study with TMC (Toyota Motor Corporation) in Japan to propose the right solution," added Beaune.

Previously, the Hilux Revo BEV concept was featured in Thailand in December last year. This model is displayed as a step by the company's commitment to present more environmentally friendly vehicle options.

Not only fixated on several technologies, this Japanese manufacturer also presents hydrogen fuel-powered Hilux in the form of a prototype. The pickup was developed at Toyota's Burnaston plant in the UK, with funding support from the British Government.
