Jarnas '98 Appreciates Komnas HAM's Assessment On Prabowo Having A Commitment To Solve Human Rights Problems

JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the National Network of Activists '98 (Jarnas '98), Sangap Surbakti appreciated the opinion of the Deputy Chairperson of the Internal Division of Komnas HAM, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi on presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto, who is still committed to resolving human rights problems (HAM).

According to the Lecturer of Law at the University of Kristen Indonesia (UKI), Pramono's statement should actually be greeted by presidential candidates number 1 and 3 to contribute ideas and ideas in implementing the completion of cases of past human rights violations, not actually exploiting victims and their families for political interests.

"I wonder why every time Pak Prabowo runs in the presidential election, there is always an issue of human rights violations that is addressed to him? Even though Komnas HAM is very clear and firm that Pak Prabowo is not related to human rights violations. In fact, Komnas HAM admits that Prabowo has a strong commitment to resolving human rights cases. So, I ask the presidential candidate number 1 and 3 to provide ideas in resolving human rights cases rather than constantly blaming Prabowo," said Sangap, who is also a figure in the '98 student movement affiliated at the City Forum (Forkot) this Wednesday, December 13.

According to Sangap, it is difficult for Indonesia to become a developed country if presidential candidates number 1 and 3 are elected in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, because both of them always bring up past problems without solutions.

"Leaders must have a myriad of ideas, ideas, and strong commitments in solving the nation's problems that are still protracted. If they can only grumble and blame others, will Indonesia be led by someone like that?" said Sangap.

Sangap also gave an example of Nelson Rolihala Mandela who could Legowo forgive his political opponents when he was elected President of South Africa on May 10, 1994. However, on the other hand, continued Sangap, Nelson Rolillala Mandela still has a solution in resolving past human rights violations committed by the apartheid regime.

"When Nelson Mandel was elected President of South Africa, he did not use his power to kill his political opponents. Nelson Mandela told me, but did not forget the events of human rights violations by the previous regime. Nelson Mandela has a solution to fulfill the rights of victims of human rights violations by forming a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. So what the people need in law enforcement and human rights is a concrete solution and action from the presidential candidates," Sangap said.

According to Sangap, the KKR solution carried out by Nelson Mandela is very relevant to be implemented in Indonesia. In addition, Sangap continued, a human rights court could also be formed which was initiated by the DPR in 2009.

"However, to implement the completion of cases of human rights violations through these two approaches, an in-depth investigation must be carried out so that the perpetrators, victims, and crime scenes can be identified, so that the results can be objective," concluded Sangap.

Previously, in the first debate that was attended by all presidential candidates, Ganjar Pranowo had asked Prabowo about two human rights issues that had not yet been resolved, namely the recommendation of the DPR in 2009, one of which would form an Ad Hoc Human Rights Court.

Ganjar also asked whether Prabowo was willing to assist in the search process for 13 people who have been missing since 1997-1998 due to forced disappearances.

"In fact, the people who were detained in the past, the police (political detention) who I said I was dealing with, are now on my side, defending me. So the problem of human rights should not be politicized. The problem you ask is rather tendentious," Prabowo said in response to Ganjar's question in a debate at the KPU, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 12 evening.

Deputy Chairperson of the Internal Division of Komnas HAM, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, assessed that presidential candidate (candidate) number 2, Prabowo Subianto, has a strong commitment in resolving human rights problems.

Pramono said Prabowo had conveyed his commitment to resolving human rights cases in a series of answers to other questions.

He also explained that solving human rights cases cannot only rely on one perspective. However, it is necessary to involve both judicial and non-judicial processes.
