Discourse On Changing The Name Of Kertajati Airport, West Java DPRD: No Discussion Yet

JABAR - Member of Commission IV of the West Java DPRD (Jabar) Daddy Rohandi revealed that the name change of West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka, became the name of a hero from Majalengka, KH Abdul Chalim, which has not been discussed.

"It's okay that the name appeared, but there has been no discussion in the West Java DPRD. I think this is just a proposal, coincidentally, the location of the airport is in Majalengka and the son of the area named KH Abdul Chalim," said Daddy confirmed in Bandung, Tuesday, December 12, was confiscated by Antara.

Daddy revealed that BIJB Kertajati from the start had indeed been proposed to be renamed, starting from KH Abdul Chalim who had just been confirmed as a national hero, then the former 3rd Indonesian president BJ Habibie who is attached to West Java, and also several other national heroes from West Java such as Mochtar Kusumaatmadja.

According to him, if you use the Majalengka regional element, there is the name KH Abdul Chalim, but if it is special, West Java has the name Mochtar Kusumaatmadja and several other names.

"In principle, I am one of the 120 members of the West Java DPRD, supporting whoever will be used later," said Daddy.

Regarding why the proposal has not been discussed even though the proposal to change the name BIJB has been sticking out since 2019, Daddy admitted that at that time his party was more focused on operating the airport.

"I don't think there is anything wrong but there has been no discussion. Even though there has been no discussion from 2019, because at that time we were still carrying out what we were working on, it wasn't just a matter of name, but more about the operation of Kertajati airport, it was the first thing we were after," said Daddy.

The proposal to change the name BIJB Kertajati has now resurfaced after the Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin received a recommendation proposal letter from the public and Majalengka figures regarding the change of the name of the West Java public pride airport to KH Abdul Chalim Airport.

Abdul Chalim himself is a figure from Majalengka who was confirmed by President Joko Widodo as a national hero in 2023.

"Just yesterday received a proposal from the family of the late Abdul Chalim but later we will process it, such as whether a letter from the DPRD is needed," said Bey at Gedung Sate, Bandung, Monday, December 4.
