At The World Figures Forum, Anies Shows Clean Jakarta Air
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan exhibited cleaner air conditions in the Capital City during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anies conveyed this when attending the C40 Forum event with a number of regional heads and figures from various countries.
This forum discusses the issue of climate change. The theme is "Sustainable Recovery: Time To Act, Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis and Accelerating Climate Actions for the Future".
Anies said, big cities are currently at the forefront of facing challenges and opportunities. Cities around the world are facing the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the effects of climate change.
"Let's take the COVID-19 pandemic as an example. Because the movement of people is restricted, the city's economy is slowing down. But on the other hand many cities and their inhabitants experience rare experiences. What is that? Clean air," said Anies in a virtual event on Youtube TIME TO. ACT, Wednesday, February 17th.
In Jakarta, Anies said the region has also succeeded in gaining momentum for cleaner air by achieving several milestones in transportation and mobility issues.
Among other things, Jakarta has succeeded in lowering the order of the most congested cities in the world. Long considered one of the top 10 most congested cities in the world, the 2020 TomTom traffic index.
"In fact, we fell to position 31. Second, the number of cyclists in Jakarta has increased quite significantly. In fact, in some areas it has increased tenfold," said Anies.
Anies said, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to encourage people to change their mindset about cycling. From sports or entertainment to transportation.
"This is a simple transformation but it changes the way we view cycling," he said.
In addition, Anies admitted to embracing this new trend by encouraging more mobility programs during the pandemic. For example, integrating various modes of public transportation.
DKI has also established 96 kilometers of bicycle paths supported by 52 bicycle sharing points. The plan is to extend the bicycle path for about 500 kilometers.
"All of these efforts are carried out in collaboration. Involving NGOs, the private sector, universities, and even individual citizens. They are actively involved, involved, in urban development," he concluded.
In this forum, there were also a number of world figures who became speakers such as the founder of Bloomberg, Michael R. Bloomberg; Chairman of C40 Cities who is also Mayor of Los Angels, Eric Garcetti; Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
Then there is the Governor of Tokyo, Koike Yuriko; Chairman of BlackRock, Philipp Hildebrand; Rockefeller Capita Management Director, David Rockfeller Jr; Musingsmag.com founder, Susan Rockefeller; etc.
