Landslide In Magelang, One Person Dies

JAKARTA - A resident died, one serious injury and another person suffered minor injuries in the landslide disaster that occurred in Ngablak District, Magelang Regency, Central Java on Friday (1/12).

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Magelang Regency explained that landslides occurred after heavy rains flushed the Ngeblak District area.

Two victims who were ornamental plant shop workers were hit by avalanche material with a height of 12 meters when the two of them were in a gazebo below them.

"That's right, sir. The BPBD team together with the TNI and Polri assisted by local residents immediately moved quickly to evacuate and conduct an assessment after there was a report of the incident," said Head of BPBD Magelang Regency Edi Wasono as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.

According to Edi, the deceased was taken to the nearest Puskesmas and then handed over to his family who live in Kopeng Village, Getasan District, Semarang Regency. Meanwhile, the seriously injured victims were rushed to the Salatiga Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

"The victim died after we evacuated and was immediately taken to the puskesmas and then handed over to his family. Meanwhile, the injured were taken to the Salatiga Hospital," he added.

Landslides occurred in the Magelang Regency area as well as in Miribo Kulon Hamlet, Giripurno Village, Borobudur District on the same day. Cliffs with dimensions of 6 meters long and 17 meters high after it rained. The landslide was also triggered by unstable soil conditions. Luckily the incident did not cause any casualties, but the avalanche material blocked the road access and could not be passed by vehicles.
